LVT Installation

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) has gained popularity as a durable and cost-effective flooring option. Whether you are a DIY enthusiast or a professional, installing LVT is a relatively straightforward process. This guide will walk you through the essential steps involved in a successful LVT installation, ensuring a beautiful and long-lasting finished product.

Step 1: Preparation
Before beginning the installation, make sure you have gathered all the necessary tools and materials. You will need a tape measure, utility knife, straight edge, hand roller, adhesive, notched trowel, and, of course, your LVT flooring. Ensure that the room where you’ll be installing the LVT is cleaned thoroughly and free from any dust or debris. It is essential to have a clean and level subfloor for a smooth installation process.

Step 2: Acclimatization
LVT needs time to adjust to the temperature and moisture levels of the room it will be installed in. Allow the LVT to acclimate to the room by placing the unopened boxes horizontally in the room for at least 48 hours. Keep the room temperature consistent during this period, typically between 65-85 degrees Fahrenheit (18-29 degrees Celsius). This process ensures that the LVT will expand or contract minimally after installation.

Step 3: Installation
To begin the installation, determine the layout of your LVT flooring. Start by finding the center of the room and working your way outward. Measure the width and length of the room and divide it by two to locate the center point. Use a chalk line or straight edge to create a guideline from one wall to the opposite wall at this center point. This guideline will help you ensure your LVT is perfectly aligned.

Next, spread the adhesive on a small section of the subfloor using a notched trowel. Press the LVT firmly into the adhesive, aligning it with the guideline. Continue this process, working section by section, until the entire floor is covered. Ensure each plank or tile is tightly fitted with no gaps between them.

Additionally, for click-lock or loose-lay installations, avoid using adhesives and simply connect the planks or tiles together following the manufacturer’s instructions. Remember to install the LVT perpendicular to the direction of natural light, ensuring a visually appealing finished look.
